Before jumping on to the topic, let us all know what does Wat pho actually mean?
Wat pho is a Buddhist temple in Phra Nakhon district, Bangkok,Thailand. Wat Pho is named after a monastery in India where Lord Buddha is believed to have lived. It is believed to be the one of the largest and the oldest temples of Thailand.It is the house of 1000 Buddhas and is also known as house of Reclining Buddha. There are very few places on the planet earth where we can see reclining Buddha. the places i know where we can see reclining Buddha is one at Ajanta caves , Aurangabad , India and the other one is in Wat Pho, Thailand.
Wat Pho is considered to be the first public university of Thailand teaching students in the fields of religion, science and literature through murals . It is also considered to be the birth place of Thai massage. In 1962 a proper school for traditional medicine and massage was established.Traditional Thai massage is taught at the Traditional medical practitioners association center in the premises of the temple. After completion of the Thai massage training the temple provide them with a certificate , which then can be used to open theory own business.Many foreigners come Wat pho every year to learn the art of traditional Thai massage.


Wat Pho Massage and its benefits:
 It generally takes place in communal open plan pavilion and the massage practitioner leans on your body using hands and usually straight forearms at the elbow to apply firm pressure. It generally follows Sen in the body. Feet and legs of the giver can be used to fixate the body or limbs of the taker. Wat pho massage session generally lasts for two hours or more which includes pressing and stretching of the entire body; this may include toes, ears, fingers, knuckles, walking on the back etc.

Whenever we hear "massage" people generally think the other way around. Moreover if someone says that he took a massage from Thailand then holy god, both the eyebrows are raised with all their big mouth wide open. Why is it so? In fact we just saw what Wat Pho massage is and its tremendous benefits.
It  all started during the Vietnam war. Past and recent history reveal to us that when large number of military are sent to foreign lands, prostitution inevitably follows. During this time American forces who were st atoned in Vietnam, were given a week's Rest and Relaxation in Thailand. In no time sex related establishments sprung and more and more girls become prostitutes. They frequently assumed roles as go-go dancers, escorts or masseuses. Pataya is one such example.
Due to Poverty and easy way of earning and without any revelation many women opted to fall under massage business. Many girls were forced and others were happily involved to earn money and enjoy. As a result the name of good and traditional Wat pho massage technique has been ruined. This is just because of the False imitations of the Certified Wat pho massage parlors which end up giving erotic and sexual pleasure. In short False imitation of these massage parlors are nothing but the base of prostitution behind the curtains.
Many Parlors also advertise by saying " More than a massage inside" or "Happy Ending" hoardings outside their parlors. Many false imitated massage parlors charge you more by misusing the name of this traditional Thai massage.

My View about Wat Pho Massage Business:
Wat Pho massage being one of  oldest and the traditional massage has a tremendous  medicinal advantage. It cure many ailments and relieves tension. It generally targets the upper segment of the society and is very profitable.However this traditional massage is good until and unless there is no intervention of any sexual desire into it, as it was started in temple,one should respect the sense of religion and should not misuse the use of this wonderful medicinal technique of massage.


Some tips to found authentic massage parlors:
1. Always look for the authentic certificate of the masseuse, which is given by the Wat Pho itself.
2. It is always done in open pavilion.
3.Beware of  ads like " Happy ending" or "More than a massage".
